Learning reflection ( Final blog )




          Discourse Approach in Reading class made me to know about Recount , Narratives , Descriptive , Procedure , Comparison and Contrast , Cause and Effect , Definition and Classification , Exemplification and Problem and Solution.



          This course can be help me for teaching the students in the future. And this subject made me know it is important in English reading. I felt good when I learned this class.

14th Learning Reflection

Today, we started problem and solution Lesson. Problem and solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue (a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution). Teacher shown me example. After that, we learned about problem and solution markers.

Problem markers :
burden, challenge, complication, concern, etc.

Solution markers :
to address, to cope with, to overcome, to solve, etc.

Next, we did skill practice. We found problem and solution markers in the text.

For me, this lesson is difficult.  I can’t find easy.

For this reason, I translated text with dictionary.

I'm a little worried because The lesson is difficult.

10th Learning Reflection

In  this  week,  I  learned  about  Comparison  and  Contrast  from  last  week ,  teacher  ordered  me  to  do  homework . 

   It  about  men  and  women : Do  they  speak  the  same  language?

I  read  the  paragraph  and  answer  the  question.  When  I  read  the  paragraph  it  made  I  knew  differences  between  the  languages  of  men  and  women  such  as  many  men  see  life  as  a  contest  in  which  they  are  struggling  to  become  independent  and  avoid  failure, on  the  other  hand , women  often  view  themselves  in  connect  with  other  people.

Finally, we began to study new lesson : Cause and Effect.
We studied cause and effect markers

I found discourse markers in this text is easy for me. They help me in reading.

The vocabulary is difficult for me because I’m not good in vocabulary.

Therefore I consulted  dictionary.

9th Learning Reflection

This  week's  mid-term  exam  2  I  quite  stressful.  I  do  not  know  I will  take  what  comes  out  at  the  time  of  the  exam ,  I  was  trying  to do  it .  Some  did  not  Some  have  written  to  me  in  that  it  is  not correct.

My  time  in  the  90  minutes  exams  to  test  40  comments ,  I  take  the time  to  do  the  examination  until  the  time  runs  out. There  are  some innate  vocabulary ,  I  don't  know ,  but  I'm  trying  to  do  my best.



After  that , I  learned  in  comparison  and  contrast  lesson the teacher   ordered   to  do  homework  from  last  week. So,  to  answer with  provide  training  for  teachers  the  main  idea  of  the  story.



I  think  it's  hard  for  me  is  finding  the  main  idea  of  ​​the  story. Sometimes  no  article  I  don’t  know  how  to  write.  But  I'm  beginning  to  have  understanding  of  the  essence  in  the  story  is much  more  then. And  I will  try  to  gather  ideas  for  thematic  to  get the  story.

8th Learning Reflection

Today  I  exam  for  teachers  the three  lessons  is  learned  about  recount  narrative  and descriptive ,  spent  the  first  couple  of  hours.

After,finished it  began a  lesson  on  comparison  and  contrast , which  is  to  compare  the  similarities  and  differences  of people , animal , things  or  places.  Teacher  give   for  example , by  leading   orange  and  apple came  to  us  to  compare  and  try  to  find  the  main  idea  of  the  article.


I  can  compare  the  similarities  and  differences.  But  the  problem  is  to  find  the  main  idea.I don't know how to put sentences come on?



Finally, I  think  it is  not  difficult for me.  And I will try to use the idea of finding a Main idea.

7th Learning Reflection

Today, we studied Procedure. Then, teacher opened videos : how to make a banana shake, banana cake, omelet and chicken soup. Next, teacher told about details of procedure. 


I think, reading how to do or make something is easy because it’s procedure and make me understand.

And my problem is writing procedure because I’m not good in writing.

I love this lesson because I love food and cook.

6th Learning Reflection

In  this  week,  I  learned  about  descriptive.  Descriptive  is  a  text  which  says  what  a  person,  a  thing  or  a  place  is  like.  This  kind  of  text  helps  us  visualized  and  understood  a  topic.  It  also  explains  the  characteristics  of  the  subject  or  topic  and  uses  details.

I think, if I knew vocabulary for adjective, I understand text.



Description must have imagination when you describe, you will imagine to tell someone understand.



Description make me observe everything and I feel fun when I studied this lesson.

3rd Learning Reflection



Today, we continue exercise from last week. After that my teacher assigned to write our recount. My group wrote about Experience of Life from Harit’s life then, our presented my recount.

I thought, search action verbs/past tense.

However, found main ideals, details and summaries the story are difficult because I had problem about interpret.


It’s so hard for me since I had problem about interpret. But I will try and do more exercise.


5th Learning Reflection

In  this  week,  I  continued in last week  in  Unit 3 (Narrative). Today, I read Secret by Tim Winton in part two and do exercises.



That  is  easy  for  me  was  to  do  exercises , chronology  of  events  before-after  since  members  of  my  group  helped  translate  ,  made  it  easy  to  sequence  event  in  the  story. And  summary  of  the  story  ,  analysis  of  features  of  character.


Problem  for  me  is  some  words  on  the  subject  is  rhetoric which  I  don’t  know  about  English  idioms , made interpretation  distortion  of  the  story.

 

Finally,  learning  about  narrative  made  me  fun  if  I  understood  that ,  we  can  summaries  the  story  and  analysis  character  from  the  story.  The  teacher  ordered  to  talk  in  front  of  the  class  which  is  a  good  for  practiced  a  teacher  in  the  future.  When  I  talked  correctly  ,  teacher  told  me  and  fixed  to  correctly.  Made   I  feel  not  scared  to  speak  English.

4th Learning Reflection

This  is  the  4th  of  classes. Today  I  learned  about  the narratives.We read and analyzed Secrets wrote by Tim Winton then, we summarized part one of narrative.


What  did  you  learn  in  this  lesson?
In this lesson, I learn about how to write the genre of text in this lesson.



What  did  you  find  easy?
I  like  working  with my friends because I can share my idea or answer with them.


What  did  you  find  difficult?         I  felt  that  is  difficult  for  me  because  I  don’t  know  all  the vocabularies  in  the  story.  While  I  read  the stories  I  don’t  understand.

How  did  you  solve  the  problem?
        
I will  try  to imagine  to  the  story  that the  author  want  to  convey.  

What  are  your  attitudes  towards the  lesson?
 I  felt  that  the  story  is  quite difficult  because  I don’t  know some vocabulary.

2nd Learning Reflection




     On January 12, 2015, Is a second time of  A  Discourse  Approach  in  Reading with Asst.Prof. Dr. Usa Noytim. Today teacher taught we about Recount lesson and before we started teacher had warm activities by saw the videos about Hockey and then teacher ordered we to write the words about Hockey in font of classroom on blackboard. After that teacher explained about Recount; Text organization, Language Features; General, Personal recount, Factual Recount and Imaginative Recount. And then teacher ordered we to make a group and worked exercises together such as Our trip to the Blue Mountain, My grandpa’s Funeral in Toraja and An Excursion to the Botanic Gardens.

What did you learn in this lesson?
       In this lesson, I learned about how to analyse text and language features.


What did you find easy?
       I thought it easy for me because this lesson it's not hard.


How did you find difficult?
       I thought my problem is when I analyse some action verb/past tense I felt confuse and uncertain.






How did you solving the problem?
       I solved the problem by review tense again and again.


What are your attitude towards the lesson?
       I feel happy in this lesson because this lesson is easier more than first lesson.

1st Learning Reflection



On January 5, 2015, Is a first time to  studied  with  Asst.Prof.Dr. Usa  Noytim  in  A  Discourse  Approach  in  Reading. Before we started this subject teacher ordered we to sit arrange by student numbers and then we talked about Course Outline and the rules in my class. After that, Asst.Prof.Dr. Usa  Noytim told everyone to find meaning of “discourse” and do exercise about discourse markers.


What  did  you  learn  in  this  lesson?
        In this lesson, I learned about discourse markers ; cause/effect, definition, problem solving, procedure, classification and comparison & contrast.





What  did  you  find  easy?
I  thought  its hard for me  because I haven’t study its before. But sometimes I knew meaning of some vocabulary so it’s a little easy for me.


How   did  you  find  difficult?
I  thought my problem  is  some vocabulary  because  in  this  lesson I haven’t seen before.


How  did  you  solving  the  problem?
I  solved  the  problem  by  take my dictionary to use in this class.


What  are  your  attitude  towards  the  lesson?
        First time I feel nervous because I have been think it very hard but when I study in this lesson its not very hard of my first time thinking. However, I think I must improve myself for vocabulary and other skills.
